How to be a social-media influencer?

A social media Influencer is a celebrity in social media who has access to a huge audience and has great reach. A social media influencer’s credibility is based on the number of followers she has on various social media channels. This can be used by brands to get promoted to a wider audience. Here are some pointers that can help you become an influencer in the social media space.

Decide what you want to stand for - Pick a topic that you are genuinely interested in and would never get bored talking about.

Be consistent – Make sure that the content addressed to your audience is consistent across all social media channels you have a presence in.

Give before you ask - Give tips, resources, develop white papers, or videos and eventually your followers are going to feel like they owe you one. They're definitely going to support you.

Listen more than you speak – Many a time people just keep talking and pushing content on social media channels without actually engaging with followers. As in real life conversation between two people, it would be uninteresting if one person does all the talking. So make sure that you're listening to your audience as they matter the most.

Hang out with other influencers – Always try to hang out in the same circles as other influencers. Connect with them on Twitter, subscribe to their YouTube channels, read their books, and also participate in events on internet and in the real world as well.

Provide something of value – Always try and provide the target audience with something of great value so that people will give you their email ID. The email ID of the users is essential for you as that proves that they trust you and they actually want to hear from you. Those email IDs can be used to send promotional emails. Make sure those emails are written in a conversational tone about topics that interest the audience and not about brands that you are endorsing.

Never stop learning – Anyone interested in becoming a social media influencer needs to be constantly learning about new trends and discoveries in her field of interest. This goes a long way in establishing oneself as a social media influencer.

Pick a social media channel, own it, and then add additional channels - If you have great ideas to set up your YouTube channel, then build your YouTube subscribers first. Similarly if you are good on Facebook or Twitter build those channels first and then expand to other channels. If you try to do them all at once you're probably going to have a harder time building an audience.
