Facebook Groups for Marketers

While most companies and brands mark their presence on Facebook with an official company Facebook page, there are a few that also use Facebook Groups as a medium to market their product.

What are Facebook Groups?

Facebook Group is a sub community within the Facebook community which is built for like-minded, similar interest loving individuals. Facebook Groups can be classified as Public, Private, or Secret. However when you build a community like Facebook Group the golden rule is that it’s a platform for the community members and not a platform about “you”.

Some interesting ways how a marketer can use a Facebook Group for marketing:

  1. Make your Customers feel special

A Facebook group of your existing customers only, can go a long way in creating a platform to not just get feedback from them where they share their user experience and highlight their problems, but also a platform where in future you can inform about your new product launches. The group can be a company group or a hobby group. The community members feel special and feel good when their content is appreciated or if there is healthy engagement.

  1. Join a Group to study current trends:

Marketers can remain up to date with current trends if they are part of a community which shares content on current and changing market trends. In these groups marketers can come across posts & problems faced by other marketers. Such posts help marketers avoid mistakes that others from their field have already committed.

  1. Focus on building a community:

The idea should be to build a community and not to build an audience for you. Facebook Groups are for community members and not about you. A group should help and give value to the audience.

  1. Communicate with Social Media Influencers

A marketer or a company can build a platform for social media influencers. This allows influencers to interact with each other. These influencers in turn become your brand ambassadors and their views and opinions will reflect in the growth of your brand.

  1. Promote events

Groups become handy in promoting events for the brand. Post the event, more community members will share notes, pictures, and use the platform for further networking.

While a lot of marketers use pages to promote their brands and products, Groups at the same time offer certain features that Pages do not. For example:

  1. Search option to check similar threads posted earlier.
  2. Community is open to any Facebook member and he/she can post a community related post.
  3. The community becomes a topic focused forum and the posts are moderated.
